The first step in preventing anxiety and panic attacks is learning how to control them once they’ve begun.

One of the nasty facts about anxiety attacks is that you can become even more anxious and panicked just realizing that it’s happening to you again. This sets up an ever-increasing cycle of distress.

A simple technique — using your fingers to tap specific points on your body — can be a very effective, drug-free, and non-invasive method for anxiety relief, and a part of your healing process. This method is known by different names: Emotional Freedom Techniques, EFT tapping, tapping therapy, and meridian therapy are just a few of them.

Because it might be hard to remember to do your EFT tapping while you’re in the throes of a panic attack, it’s a good idea to practice your rounds at times when you are feeling calm. Do this over and over again, so it becomes habit… even mechanical.

At the same time you are going through your tapping practice, be sure to also practice slow, deep breathing. Anxiety tends toward shallow, rapid breathing, which creates a cascade of undesirable physical symptoms. Slowing down the breath will help bring the proper amount of oxygen into your body, allowing your pounding heart to begin to relax and return to a normal rhythm.

When you become aware of an oncoming anxiety/panic attack, all you have to remember is to begin your EFT tapping.

The habit you have already established will take over, and the finger tapping will help you begin to release the tension and anxiety, and even the constriction and nausea you may be feeling.

With regular use (i.e. anytime you have anxiety or a panic attack), EFT tapping therapy can gradually reduce the frequency and severity of your episodes.

In case all the terms have confused you, panic attack is another words for anxiety attacks. A panic attack hits suddenly and overwhelms a person with feelings of terror and needing to flee.

Panic attacks are different from the normal anxiety all people will feel during a stressful event or emergency. Panic attack is a persistent problem that interferes with life. This article will describe panic attack disorder and explain what you can do to stop panic attacks.

Panic attacks can have many different physical symptoms that would normally go along with a fight or flee response in a real emergency. These include a rapid and pounding heart, rapid heart rate, nausea, sweating, light headedness, hot or cold flashes, chest pain, numb hands and feet, tingly or burning skin, irrational thoughts, fear of losing control, and a number of other symptoms. People might think they’re having a heart attack, asthma attack or just think something is horribly wrong.

Imagine that you’re standing at the check out counter, paying for your groceries, when suddenly you just can’t handle it. Your body is hit with an overwhelming physical reaction, forcing you to run from the store, leaving your groceries behind. These feelings (the anxiety attack) can be sudden terror and fear that strike for no reason and without warning.

Most readers probably want to understand the causes and symptoms of anxiety attacks, and also look for ways to stop panic attacks. A good and trusted source of information is The National Institute of Mental Health. This article explains some of their definition of Panic Disorder, also called Anxiety (or Panic) Attack Disorder. Around 19 percent of adults in the US experience a form of anxiety disorder, and 3 percent of adults anxiety attack disorder.

People at Risk for Panic Attack Disorder

People of any age can suffer from this condition, especially with the fast pace of life and many pressures that everyone experiences. The condition does seem to start most often in people ages 17 to 25. Children can even suffer from panic attacks, although it’s harder to catch in children. Once the child is calmed down, people are more likely to assume he is okay. More women have reported suffering from anxiety attacks, but doctors think men are less likely to report attacks.

Treating Panic Disorder

Panic attack disorder can be treated. Too many people live for years not knowing how to stop panic attacks. This condition doesn’t go away over time or get better by itself. But there is help! Any person can take control of their life with good information and support. It’s time to take action. You can stop panic attacks naturally with therapy and once again enjoy the freedom to go out and enjoy life.

Is Lexapro effective in treating Social Anxiety Disorder and/or PMDD?

I know Lexapro isn't FDA approved to treat SAD (social anxiety disorder) or PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), but I've been recently prescribed this.

Any SSRI would help wouldn't it?

Has anyone tried Lexapro and has had their social phobia or PMDD symptoms relieved from it?

I tried Zoloft (which is FDA approved to treat SAD and PMDD), but 50mg didn't do much, and 100mg wouldnt let me sleep more than 2 hours a night for 2 weeks…

I've done some research and have come across Paxil also. How well does it work for one with SAD or PMDD? Personal experiences only please.

Is there any natural remedies for panic attacks without taking prescribed medicines?

Pot does not help. I have had panic attacks for years and smoking did nothing except make them a lot worse. I have had the worse panic attacks during the time when I did smoke pot regularly. Imagine walking up the stairs and having your body just shutdown. You breathing starts to speed up and you start to breath deeper to calm down. Your body feels like it is having convolutions. Your mind can not focus on anything except current fears. You finally manage to get to the bottom of the stairs and when you look around it is as if you can not even get enough focus to recognize that there are other people in the room. When someone starts asking if you are ok it takes 2 minutes to answer because when you look at them it as if you are looking through them. Words become background noise that make no sense. You really think pot is going to help you now? Anyone who thinks that has no idea what it is like. The truth is for everyone it is different what they needed. I tried everything before going to a doctor. Everything from melatonin to nyquil. The only time anything ever worked was when I would take enough that it would be considered an over dose. I would go days without sleep because of the panic attacks. I got to the point I would buy a big bottle of nyquil just to sleep for a night. 10 pills and 3-4 hours later I was up again taking the rest of the package to get another hour of sleep. I went to the doctors and it took a year to find the right meds. Now I have been fine for years. The point is you can hit and miss with natural remedies and some success stories. The best defense from all my experience is sleep. The more the mind is rested the less the attacks will come on. I am in college now and have a 3.75 gpa. That would never have been possible before without seeing the doctor. I thought I could do it on my own for a long time, in the end I just made things worse with non prescription meds. Working out a lot helps a ton too.

Social Anxiety! Help!?

Hello!
First of all, I want to let you know that I am not a native speaker of English, therefore my English may sound weird.
I have been studying abroad for 1,5 years. One of the reasons I wanted to study abroad was to overcome my social anxiety which was mild at that time, but I have realized that my social anxiety problem has gotten worse since I came here. I live in a corridor with 10 other people. We share the kitchen, but we have our own rooms. They are all very outgoing and invite me to go out all the time, but i find excuses each time and i even lie to them sometimes that i will go out with other people, but i simply hide into my room and don't get out of it the whole night. They eat their dinner in the kitchen, but i eat in the room and it feels terrible to run into my room with plates in my hands, when all of them are there sitting at table. I think my social anxiety problem is also related to my eating disorders I have developed here: i have been bulimic for about 6 months and I keep avoiding activities with friends which include eating. The dorm area I live in is famous for its parties, but I never go to them mainly because of this reason. This is actually another big problem of mine, for which i want to get professional help, but i can't because I don't have enough money right now. I have been tring to get better, but I don't have any close friends now because they are fed up with getting a “no” answer from me. It would be bearable if I were in my home country, but i feel so lonely and melancholic here. no body knows about this and people indeed don't realize that i have problems in social situations, but i certainly have. Please give me some ideas on what to do.
Thanks in advance!

Adolescent depression, anxiety disorders are two distinct problems – Yahoo! India News

Washington, Sep 24 (ANI): Adolescent depression and anxiety disorders are actually two distinct psychiatric disorders, says an expert at Utrecht University.

Dr. William W. Hale III and his colleagues conducted a five-year, longitudinal study of secondary school adolescents.

Every year, they measured the depressive and anxiety disorder symptoms of the adolescents.

They concluded that while adolescent anxiety and depression were strongly related to each another, adolescent depression and anxiety disorder symptoms were in fact best classified as two distinct disorders.

The study has been published in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry. (ANI)

ANI

We all experience anxiety from time to time. In fact, it’s a normal part of our physiological makeup and is intended to keep us safe. In today’s world, many people find that their anxiety levels are out of proportion. Someone who suffers from chronic anxiety disorder will produce excessive amounts of adrenaline and other chemicals in response to what they perceive as threats. Unfortunately, those perceived threats might include such everyday situations as social interaction or worry about money and finances. The chronic anxiety disorder impacts their day-to-day lives in a very negative way.

Are you concerned that you might suffer from chronic anxiety disorder? We’ve put together a list of signs that you may recognize.

The most recognizable signs of chronic anxiety disorder include those uncomfortable feelings that nag at you. People with chronic anxiety disorder most likely feel nearly-constant apprehension, which can be directed at a particular situation or may be vaguer than that. They may constantly worry about the future or their performance at work, school or in the family.

Chronic anxiety disorder can appear suddenly or manifest gradually over time. Many individuals who suffer from chronic anxiety disorder find that the onset of symptoms can be connected to a traumatic event. They may even experience flashbacks of traumatic events throughout their lives. Physical signs of this trauma can include a racing heart, sweating, and dizziness.

It is common for those with chronic anxiety disorder to suffer from other stress-related illnesses and conditions. For example, insomnia often occurs in conjunction with anxiety disorders. Other stress-related conditions that may be present are irritable bowel syndrome, headaches, and fatigue. Many people learn they have chronic anxiety disorder because they seek treatment for some sort of physical ailment.

Because anxiety generally manifests itself in very uncomfortable ways, those suffering from chronic anxiety disorder may begin to avoid situations in which they fear the anxiety will return. This might include only using certain routes to drive to work or even becoming fearful of leaving the perceived safety of their own homes.

Women are considerably more likely to suffer from chronic anxiety disorder than men. Likewise, those in caregiver roles have a heightened chance of developing an anxiety disorder. This includes caring for family members with significant illnesses.

Of course, no two people are going to experience chronic anxiety disorder in the exact same way. These are just some of the signs that commonly appear in those with anxiety disorders. The severity of the disorder can vary. Some people are able to manage well, while others may develop more severe symptoms such as panic attacks. These are physical responses in which the sufferer may become short of breath with a racing heart and sweating skin. Often there is a sense of being detached from the situation, and it is not unusual for a person to believe they are experiencing a heart attack.

Whether you experience full-blown panic attacks or live with a reoccurring unrealistic worry about the future, you may be suffering from chronic anxiety disorder. The most important criterion is whether it affects your daily life. If worries and concerns are impeding you from living the life you want, then you may be in the grip of chronic anxiety disorder.

Anxiety Panic Disorder| An Overview

Anxiety panic disorder is a growing phenomenon in the United States and elsewhere in the developing world. And it’s no wonder why if you take a look at the hard facts. Our societies have fundamentally changed.

These fundamental changes have occurred slowly since the Industrial Revolution and into our modern service economy lifestyles.

These changes include a radically different diet, radically different physical activity patterns, and very different social structures. When you combine all three you have the perfect recipe for mass anxiety disorders.

Here are a few ways ways which we live today that is very different that the way we used to live in the past. Number one, our diet is highly processed. Number two, physical activity has dropped off to almost zero for a majority.

And three, we live in a more isolated culture in which social ties and interactions are way down. This is not good for the development of feelings of security and ease. Often times people feel abandoned.

Anxiety Panic Disorder | The Natural Solution (10)

Minimize alcohol consumption to as close to zero as possible

Eat 5 – 9 servings of fresh fruit and green vegetables per day

Walk for 30 minutes 3 -4 times per week, anyone can do that!

Watch less news, socialize more, confide your condition to a trusted friend

Cut out: sugar, while flour, soda pop

Establish a regular sleep cycle

Get a massage, do stretching for 10 minutes in the mornings,

Do deep abdominal breathing exercises

Hypnotherapy has been used as a treatment for different types of physical and mental conditions for a long time now. It has been more than thousand of years now that this therapy is utilized throughout a variety of cultures. In the mid 20th century, modernized version of it was introduced as a medical technique. This was supported by both American as well as British medical Association.

When it comes to panic attacks, there are several ways hypnotherapy can work. In fact, the therapy has been proved helpful in several cases of panic attacks and individuals have been extremely happy with the performance and its effects.

It is sad but true that about one third of American population has already suffered form a panic attack at least once at same point of time in their life. There are several reasons for this. One of the main reasons remains ignorance about the disease, symptoms and treatment options.

One of the most effective options is hypnotherapy. It will help a person to cope up with panic attacks very efficiently. The treatment is fast and does not leave a negative impact on the patient. The technique helps the person to experience relaxation in a positive and quick pace.

Hypnotherapy has been extremely successful in teaching panic attack sufferer a brand new way to think as well as behave. There are a lot of breathing exercises and visualizations included in the technique in order to make the sufferer fearless.

The latest accepted technique of hypnotherapy for curing panic attacks is known as hypo- analysis or Analytical Hypnotherapy. This herapy is extremely focused as well as intensive type of talk therapy that helps a patient to be in a safe as well as secure environment. Thereafter it makes the patient travel through the process of identifying as well as underlying cause of patients phobia, anxiety or panic attacks. The process is carried out via using hypnosis.

Once the ulterior cause of panic or anxiety is identified and minimized, all symptoms associated to it would reduce dramatically.

The process of treatment that utilizes this therapy can take a long time and may also be heavier on your pocket. However, the process is extremely effective and facilitates the patient to undergo a self analyzation as well as understand the actual source of fear and anxiety.

A lot of studies have reported success of hypnotherapy in curing panic attacks. Many researches have even suggested effectiveness in helping patients get rid of panic attack.

Experts recommend to try some sessions of hypnotherapy to experience its effectiveness. This will help you get a feel of whether it gives you any impact on your sense of anxiety and well being.

Panic attacks can be quite uncomfortable, abnormal, scary and even stop you from carrying out your daily life activities.

Turning to hypnotherapy will surely help you achieve your goals. It will provide you a life that’s free of any kind of panic or anxiety attack.
